David Monkawa

Immigrated to the US as a child with family in 1958.

Dad was a gardener and mom was domestic worker and we lived in the Crenshaw-Adams

neighborhood of LA, CA. Attended art school at Calif. Institute of the Arts.

Became an activist for system change during the anti-war movement and the Asian American movement.  

Was Co-Chair of National Coalition for Redress & Reparations 1990-to 1994

Organized on the floor in warehousing, healthcare and hotels. And held positions in unions.

Assistant to the President for Hotel Employees Union Local 11 in LA.

California Nurses Association, National Nurses United, National Assistant Organizing Director.

Currently Co-Chair of Save Our Seniors

A mainly Japanese American healthcare advocacy group.
