Rebecca Gonzales

Rebecca Gonzales is the Director of Government Relations and Political Affairs for the National Association of Social Workers, California Chapter. Her primary duties are to lobby the legislature on issues important to social workers and their clients.

Prior to her current position, Rebecca worked for the State Assembly where she worked for several members including former Assemblymember Tom Hannigan who once represented Davis, and for two former speakers of the State Assembly, Willie Brown and Antonio Villaraigosa. 

Rebecca also worked for the California Budget Project for eleven years as the Outreach Coordinator, which involved conducting training sessions on the state budget process and state budget issues. Ms. Gonzales began her professional career with the California Public Interest Group (CalPIRG) as an organizer at the UC Berkeley campus.  

Rebecca is also the volunteer co-chair of the Sacramento Valley Chapter of Brady United Against Gun Violence and has been active in gun violence prevention work since the year 2000. In 2000 and 2001, she helped to organize the local Million Mom March at the State Capitol.  Ms. Gonzales received her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University.
